Jogja is a modern name for Yogyakarta. It is a city that lies in the southern part of Middle Java, Indonesia. Sometimes people call it Jogjakarta, Yogya or simply Jogja. This city has so many attributes such as city of culture, historical city and city of education.
The city of Jogja was established in March the 13th, 1755 when the first Sultan Hamengku Buwono proclaimed that the territory under his command according to Gianti's Agreement was called Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat and its capital was Ngayogyakarta (Yogyakarta). Now, Jogja has grown into a vast and major city which dwelt by millions of people.
Once, Jogja was the capital of Republic of Indonesia. It was in 1946-1949 when this country was still struggling to achieve the legitimation of its independence after it was declared in August 17th 1945 in Jakarta by the first Indonesia's President, Mr. Soekarno.
Because so many people from different races and languages from all over Indonesia lives in Jogja, this city also known as The Mini Indonesia. But although so, this city still hasn't lost its originality. 'Slow but sure' is the motto of the native people. So whenever a person landed his/her feet upon Jogja's land, that person will feel the relaxing and comforting atmosphere. Perhaps it's the reason why Jogja is the 2nd place of Indonesian tourism destination after Bali.
